Hi everyone, I am excited to be a part of Taylored Expressions blog hop. Their stamps are new to me, and I find these cling stamps very good, with great images and sentiments. For this blog hop, I have used the Christmas set stamps. I have also used the wonderful sketch of Sankari. Since the birth of Christ is my focal point, I have done layers of colour by sponging the background before stamping the image. I have added title to the image using silver EP with heated gun. Papers are from the retired SU christmas designer paper. And for the added detail, instead of using flowers or buttons, I have used a sentiment which captures the essence of Christmas. The detailing I have done is the embossing on the background and piercing. Hope you enjoy this blog hop. For You SNTODBD8 challenge

This week, Marcelle Schauer hosted ODBD Stamping in Time challenge 8 by giving us a challenge of either using coloured brads or colored pencils. Check out the Our Daily Bread Blog for details. I was up for this challenge as I haven't used my watercolour pencils for a long time. I have used a lot of sponging here for the sentiments and the edges of the paper. I have used 3 SU brads to accentuate the page. The hardest part was cutting along the delicate flower image after colouring with the pencil. I have also used SU blender pen to soften the strong hues, to blend the colours beautifully. As my main entiment is about my mom, I have torn the kraft cardstock and sponged it to give it a distress look. This card can have a photo of mom or a greeting of Happy Mother's Day bedie the flower image. The best part about this card is that you can display it on a coffee table a it appears as a brag bag, cute but personal. Hope you like my creation, Mom. Thanks for stopping by.

My Mom

I have been thinking for the past few days what to give my mum on Mother's Day. I am kind of predictable with my gifts, as she knows that it is usually, handmade. But this is my first time to join this challenge, ODBDSLC10, by using a recycled acetate packaging. Over at Stampin Sisters in Christ, the challenge was to use flowers on your creation. I thought of using silk flowers and branches from the SU bird punch to add that special touch to the card. What I loved most is the sentiment that came with it from Proverbs 34:95-96 "She is clothes with strength and dignity, she can laugh at the days to come. Projects for Swap Sisters

I have done many projects over the last week for swap sisters, but haven't had time to do some blogging. For a change, I have been inspired to do more scrapbook pages than cards. I think its a personal challenge for me to keep up with my scrapbook backlog.

My first ATC

I recently joined swap sisters (thanks Anne for inviting me!) and I am having fun participating as much as I can in some of the challenges, wednesday nights is ATC, and tuesday nights is punch art. Bunny Hideout UStamp inspired

This is my take for the Bunny Hideout project of Lynn Pratt at UStamp. I wanted a bright box for spring, so I used taken with teal, and decorated it using whisper white and certainly celery. I didn't have all the punches for the bunny, so I did some freehand cutting for some parts. I am making at least 5 boxes of chocolates to give away as treats for Sunday. Hope I finish these in time. I have added a door which hides the basket of carrots form the bunny (a twist of the bunny hideout). Check out my next post, my other box, another Ustamp inspired one by Natasha Zandbergen. I have been learning some vintage this week, thanks to Swap Sisters, they have inspired me to do something new, and I just loved it. For this week's challenge, I thought of using this technique in this week's colour combo. I have used the new Vintage Vogue (set, coming out this Aptil 1) and the Summer set from the past spring mini catty. The SU cutter was very handy in roughening up the edges, and the sponging also helped.

I haven't done a scrapbook page in ages. I am glad that the challenge at UStamp motivated me to get back to it again. I have recorded a special occasion marking my stepfather's 80th birthday. It was a great time to come together as a family.

JAI7 Spinning card

For the JAI challenge, I thought to myself that after doing this project, anything that's IMPOSSIBLE could be POSSIBLE with perseverance and creative thinking. My niece is having her 4th birthday soon, so I thought that this challenge could be good to give her. I only used that prescribed colours with cardstock, but no ink (except for so saffron) as I am not a bold fan. Luckily, the pastels are a big help for this challenge which I used on the girl. I like cards with movement so I made a spinning birthday card that shows the 4 colours when you turn the wheel each time. I embossed the party hats, the gift, and the cupcake on the inside card.

I just made the inside simple, but still clear embossed it and added dimension to it for greater effect.

Sponged March calendar

I tend to forget birthdays, and to help me get organised, I decided to make a calendar which will help me remember those important dates. I have been experimenting with sponging and masking and using different tones of colours to create the background. I don't normally use purple, but now am convinced that any colour will do, just depends on the colour combo used. I was a bit lazy changing my post it mask and used the same tear to layer the horizon. I think it still created a nice background. Lovely as a Tree still is my favourite, and this time, I embossed it the clear EP, and am surprised with the textured effect.

Exploding box of Goodies

Thanks Paula for introducing this box, i had fun making it this afternoon, hope this is the start to keep my mojo going. I have decided to use the good neighbours stamp set as I really love this set from the SAB. I also complimented it with the Kids at play (retired) set as I thought of kids on the tree or hiding at the back of the hedge using the green strip of paper. I used mainly markers to add colour to the house, and used the sentiment Happy Birthday from the Vintage Labels set (anothe SAB). To decorate the top of my box, I just used the tree stamp without the trunk from the Good Neighbours set as well.

Trendy Trees at Christmas!

Thought I would whip up a different Christmas card using one of the neglected stamp sets that I have, Trendy Trees. I cased this scenery from MF's blog, but had to add something else, rather than the leaf. I thought of adding a forest friends stamp (a good way of remembering a friend this Christmas!). Hoping whoever friend gets this will like it. This is also the first time that I have some emboss resist, masking and sponging playing with brown, green and orange.

My elephant is thirsty!

The animal stories stamp set from the new summer mini is starting to grow on me, as initially I had reservations about using this set. After seeing other people's wonderful creations, I have decided to give it a try. So, in anticipation of summer, I thought of creating a secne where my elephant is thirsty. Sorry for the mistake in the elephant, as I think my stamp-a-majic moved, and I ran out of white gel pen as I was creating the effects on the water.

Say goodbye to chilly winter

Today's weather has turned out pretty warm, considering the cold, windy and rainy days the past week, Can't wait for summer to really kick in, as I have to weed out our garden among other things. Last week, I have cased MZ's chilly front and experimented on adding a boat. I drew the branches and the boat as I don't have any stamps. My card is quite small as this is just an experiment. The only stamp I used here is the snowflake from snow swirled set. Though it doesn't snow here in Wellington, thought that dreams of snow can be best captured in this.

Gift wallet v.2

In the midst of experimenting with sponging and masking, I have been busy making gift wallets (another version) for my husband's family and wrapping gifts. This time, I have made the gift card to just slide out, than untying the ribbon. I have used the season of Joy stamp set )hopefully not too late, to use it). Just acquired this set as an early Christmas gift.

Sunset Tree

Eversince I have tried sponging, masking, and playing with colours, I have become more adventurous with trying more scenes, this time, sunset. Sunrise or sunrise always amaze me and I tried to capture this using Lovely as a Tree stamp set. I had to use the colours I have at hand, and sponged one layer after layer to get the desired effect. I've never used as much black, so saffron, pumpkin pie, choc chip, and real red for sponging to get the desired effect.

Reflections

One of the things I like about Michelle Zindorf's work is how she is able to capture the reflection of a subject. After much encouragement from my husband to try more scenery cards, I have experimented on this one, using lovely as a tree again. I made a mistake on the first one, so hopefully this is better. I did a lot of sponging and msking on this one, not sure if I achieved the reflection effect.

I have made a few gift wallets using the spring mini (I know that the summer mini is out), but just wanted to share what I have done. I have also used a new colour combo, getting out of my comfort zone and this is what I came up with.

Lovely as a Tree

After seeing my friend Paula do several scenery cards over the past week, she has convinced me that it's worth trying it out. At first, I was intimidated by it all as I found the idea of sponging, masking and reflecting a bit too much for a beginner like me in card making. But it was worth trying it out as I miss the days when I used to do some painting, I think I will try more nature cards from now on. Thanks Paula, I am now a fan of Michelle Zindorf. I must admit that I will miss this fabulous set from the spring mini. It is not only versatile, I also think that it is an economical set, as you can do so much with it. This time, I also decided to play with some cool colour combinations for Christmas, thinking of a male Christmas card, as it is always difficult to make some cards for guys.

I have been like a card machine yesterday, making about 20 cards, and this is one of the cards. My friend Paula invited me to the Lower Hutt Christmas market, and we hope to sell some SU crafts that we have made. The stamp I used is a retired SU, but I couldn't resist using it because of the detail and coloring involved. I am sure, that whoever this card goes to will be very pleased.

Triangle Treat box

This triangle treat box was one of the storage ideas we made at the class. I experimented with daubing pastels on embossed image, central panel (was like applying make-up), and matched the embossed background with soft summer image. I complimented the paisley background with the paisley design from the DSP Raspberry Tart. I saw this box from Paula Ponders blog, but changed the measurements.

One of the things I like about SU is that I learn from ideas of other people, I saw a similar bag from Tracey's blog, but changed it a bit to make it my own. I used the walk in the park DSP, which will be retiring this end of November. To close the lid, you can use a thinner twine or elastic string for better effect. Small Secret Window Box

Ihave made this box awhile back but havent had time to post it. I have used the same concept for the taller box, but only reduced the measurements. I like making boxes now, as I find my scorpal very handy to score lines on cardstock, and you can fold and complete a box straight away. I have used best yet sentiment on scallop circle. I also used Always stamp set (notice the bud stems on the side of the box), I think this coordinates with the DSP on the lid very well. Happy Stamping!

Card folder box

This is the last project at the craft class over the weekend. I played a bit with how to make ny card folder box. I like the kraft cardstock as it is very useful to mix with other colours. I also tried to get away from the traditioal Christmas colours. I also find it very useful using only 1 stamp set (which I learned from training field day) to explore a stamp set's versatiltity, I used Snow Swirled stamp set.

Accordion Card

At craft class, we made this accordion card using the Washington Apple DSP. I am loving this designer paper because of the flexibility of the design, either for a boy or girl could do. I got the idea from SCS but altered it a bit with the snap band I made using velcro. Any sentiment could be used, in this card I used echoes of kindness sentiment (hostess stamp set). The girls got to choose their own sentiment in the card. Flower for the card came from the Eastern Blossom stamp set. I thought this stamp set went well with the chosen DSP.

Flippin' Card

This is one of the cards we created at my 1st craft class last Saturday. I cased this card from Julie Woolner (thanks Julie!) which I got from our field training day last Thurs here in Wellington. It was great to meet new people, and hopefully to be part of a local team, so that I won't feel abandoned anymore, (thanks Lisa Beck and the others, I will be in touch!). I like this card a lot because of the movement it makes and it creates a bit of surprise for the sentiment that is partly hidden before you flip it over to the other side. I like this Always stampset as it has a mixture of images and sentiments that you can mix and match with any card

I just love this Snow Swirled stamp set as it is very elegant, and so versatile to use. This time, I have used the main tree stamp. This coordinates really well with the Ski slope DSP, which I also find very versatile, especially when used with the In colour cardstock. It takes the guesswork to cardmaking out, but still making fabulous, classic christmas cards. I also used a technique of modifying the scallop edge by punching a circle on each scallop with the 1/16" circle.

Christmas theme in a recessed window!

After accomplishing 3 readings yesterday, I thought of rewarding myself with some crafting. I remember seeing a tutorial from Splitcoaststampers (Lynn Mercurio) about a recessed window. I thought it was a little intimidating to begin with, but it turned out quite an enjoyable experience as I got to use my new scorpal again and the fabulous Ski Slope DSP from the new mini catalogue. I decided to use it as a picture frame by making a stand at the back of the cardstock. If you motice the detail in the flower, its my 1st time to use the bling from the SU prettiest kit. Thank You notecard for a Surprise!

My wonderful husband came home with a wonderful surprise yesterday, he had this beautiful arrangement of flowers created by a lovely lady, Celeste (who is a florist,by the way). It was a lovely surprise as my hubby and I forgot that we were celebrating the special date of our wedding monthsary. So, to thank Celeste, I thought of matching the flower colours with a thank you note card.

Materials: Almost navy, ruby red, vanilla and certainly celery cardstock.
Stamp set: soft summer from the spring mini
sentiment: same using word window punch with choc chip ink
Technique: watercolour using SU pastels and blender pens

Treat Box

I got my scor-pal in the mail yesterday and I thought of modifying this treat/gift box I downloaded from the SU demo website. This scor-pal is just great, a must tool for crafters who are into cards, boxes or any other 3D projects. I used the same materials from the mojo sketch #96, but used baja breeze ribbon instead. The sentiment is from the Best Yet hostess set on whisper white with a circle stamped accent from the Circle Circus stamp set, as well as the background outer circle, I used versamark to leave a watermark effect (although the photo does not do any justice, compared to the actual sample. The 1st image shows the 2nd lid, used recycled acetate with circle scallop punch. Mojo Sketch #96

Hi everyone, sorry that I have been silent for more than a week as I have been swamped with studies. Anyway, couldn't resist doing this Mojo sketch #96 using the Sense of Time stamp set from the spring mini catalogue using chocolate chip and black ink. I am having my first workshop as a demo, at my house. I am really excited about it as I will be given the opportunity to share my love for creating different crafts. At the moment, I couldn't do it full time though, as I still have 2 assignments to go. Nevertheless, it's from 1-3pm (August 9). Today, I also finished doing a card folder with 4 coordinating cards for my Mum, who had her birthday a few days ago, I hope she likes it as I always make something different each year for her birthday. Since it's my first time to do this project, I used stash cardstock and designer paper and SU stamps to experiment with. But will post a new card folder with the SU DSP and cardstock. I plan to include this project in my future classes (so watch this space). Till then, Happy Crafting!

When I look at other blogs, I notice that some demos do some weekly challenge. Thought I'd give it a go and see. I used paper from the new mini catalogue (ski Slope DSP), in colour cardstock (baja breeze, kiwi kiss, riding hood red). Stamp set (circle circus). Creating the other bigger circles was a challenge as I didn't have lids that were the right size at first, but glad I found some to match the size of my card. I am thinking of preparing Christmas card samples for my Christmas cards class, which I will announce here soon.

What a butterfly means to me

Now that I have submitted my 3rd assignment, I have treated myself to some 'playing and creating' with my SU goodies. Since the much awaited Spring catalogue will be out in 1 August, I thought of making some samples from this delightful catalogue (watch this space). I chose the butterfly because of its versatility to be matched with many things.

I have been planning for my workshop and thought of making this THANK YOU treat box for my host. I hope she likes it. I like it a lot as I used the new scallop oval punch (still from the new spring mini) and crimped the red strip which I inserted on the side using my slit punch.

Materials: stamp sets (Circle circus, Great Friend), markers (not quite navy, ruby red, choc chip). Cardstock: kraft, riding hood red & baja breeze (in colour), dimensionals

I must admit that after all the studying this morning, I decided to reward myself with a creative project. And where else will I get the idea, from WE STAMP! Yes, I really couldnt resist, so I made one up, (and I don't have any excuse, as I have some wonderful DSP in my starter kit.

Matrials: Simply Scrappin' kit (Sweet Nothings), used riding hood red, pink pirouette, kiwi kiss, and whisper white cardstock

My Stampin' Up Oppotunity Begins

I received my starter kit last Friday, but since I have been so busy studying, I haven't even had the time to play (whaaah!). Hopefully, I'll have my reward SOON as I'm targetting Wednesday to be the latest. Anyway, I am excited with all the goods I got, though the lettering stamp is a backorder, so I'll have to wait. In the meantime, I will be posting some creations as soon as assignment is finished, and you will see some cards, gift ideas, scrapbook pages using SU goods from the current catalogue and the spring mini catalogue as well (I nearly ordered everything from the catalogue!).

Eversince I lodged my application to be a Stampin Up demonstrator this week, it felt like the longest week ever. And finally, yesterday I got my demonstrator number, YAAY! I felt like winning the Lotto. I'm overwhelmed with the wealth of information and ideas that stampin up website provides for its demonstartors. Now, can't wait till I get my starter kit.
